The Brandeis University Judges continue their shaky season as they have split their four most reason games, 2-2.
On April 11 the Judges were dominated by WPI as they lost by a score of 2-10. Pitcher James Collins 09 received the loss for the game, but it was the Judges overall defensive performance that truly gave up the big lead as they allowed five runs off of five errors. It flew in the face of Tyler Robinsons 08 assessment of WPI the day before. They can hit the ball but overall, theyre not that good. Its not going to be that good of a game.
Ouch.
The Judges headed into the WPI game coming off a clutch performance against Tufts University where they won 9-2.
The Judges were losing 2-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning. During the seventh inning Brandeis saw their team bring home seven runs sealing a strong victory. The biggest hit of the inning was outfielder Ben Dashefskys 07 two-run triple.
Our guys the first couple of innings were sitting around taking too many strikes and then after that, they started swinging the bat. Coach Brian Lambert explained, Our starting pitcher did a great job, Robinson came in and did a great job pitching and defense, we were great today.
Pitcher Tyler Robinson received the win after relieving starter Craig Letendre 08, and pitching for 2.2 innings. Letendre received a no decision after giving up the lead with two earned runs. The game heated up after Manager Pete Varney was ejected in the fifth inning. Afterwards, Brandeiss offense heated up.
I think it [Varneys ejection] got us kind of fired up a little bit. Robinson explained, The umpire had a really bad zone. We just started swinging the bat regardless of where the ball was he was going to call it a strike for them.
Before they had their own come from behind loss;
the Judges saw their 3-0 lead go to waste against Salem State as they ended up losing that game 5-3. The damage was done when Brandeis gave up three runs in the top of the fifth inning, and then the go ahead run during the sixth inning.
Drew Brzozowski 10 received his first loss of the season after pitching six innings and surrendering four runs, three of which were earned.
The Judges continued to prove their inconsistency after this loss, because right before the Salem State game they put on a thrilling come from behind performance against Fitchburg State College.
Fitchburg State had a 10-9 lead heading into the bottom of the eighth inning where the Judges scored four of their 13 runs and sealed the exciting victory.
In this high scoring performance, shortstop Zach Golden 07 scored four runs. Collins pitched 2.2 innings and received the win giving him a record of 2-2 on the season.
The main issue that these young Judges are facing this season is inconsistency as they have yet to see a win streak higher than two games in a row. With 13 games left in the season, the judges hope to develop some consistency, and go one a run to finish off the regular season.
