Men’s soccer drops two on the road

The men’s soccer team battled it out on the road this past weekend as they traveled to St. Louis and Chicago to play UAA opponents Washington University and University of Chicago. Unfortunately, the Judges returned without a win after losing 0-2 to Washington University and 0-2 to Chicago.

On Friday night, the first game got off to a slow start for the Judges. In the first half, the Bears secured the advantage, outshooting Brandeis 8-2, which included their first two goals in the 17th and 39th minute.

However, the men came into the second half strong, outshooting Washington University 13-10, four of which came from game leader senior Andrew Allen ’19. Allen’s initial shot was blocked by the Bears’ defense and rookie Jared Panson’s ’22 follow up rebound was immediately cleared off. Sadly, this momentum wouldn’t be enough to get them in front of their opponent and onto the board. Brandeis’ Noah Cohen ’20 finished with a career-high eight saves in net, falling to 2-3-1 for the season.

Days later, the Judges suffered another tough loss to University of Chicago. Brandeis could never seem to secure a lead after the Maroons scored twice within the first 14 minutes. Only trailing behind in 10 total shots on net versus Chicago’s 12, they tried to make a comeback in the 78th minute with the help of Panson, who came close to scoring when his ball was cleared off the line by the defense. The corner kick advantage of 4-3 would not suffice and by the end of the game, the Judges were unable to close the gap, the final score thus remaining at 2-0 Chicago. In his hometown, Cohen made two saves in net.

With these losses, Brandeis came out of the weekend with an overall record of 7-8-2 while Washington University improves to 7-6-1 and Chicago improves to 14-2-1. The Judges will look to close out their regular season in New York this Saturday, Nov. 3 at 12 p.m. verses UAA rival NYU. Currently, both teams are tied for fifth in the conference with a record of 2-3-1.
