How many Jewish holidays can we fit into one month?? Probably not as many Jewish books as you can read in a month! This week we’re going to talk about some of my favorite Jewish romance books, of which there are a LOT. I’ve chosen a few of my favorites, perfect reading for the upcoming eight-day holiday of Sukkot.
Rachel Lynn Solomon is an author that I’ll always recommend, partially for her incredible collection of young adult Jewish literature. My favorite is “Today Tonight Tomorrow,” a rivals-to-lovers romance in which the main characters pause the ultimate scavenger hunt to go have Shabbat dinner. If you liked the TV show “Never Have I Ever,” you should definitely give this book a read.

If you’re looking for a queer and Jewish combo read, Dahlia Adler’s “Cool For The Summer” is at the top of my list. It’s also a perfect read to forget that you’re in dreary, rainy Massachusetts! Lara’s finally got the guy of her dreams, but why can’t she stop thinking about the girl from this past summer? You’ll have to read the book to find out!

Becky Albertalli is the queen of Jewish representation in books, so of course I have to recommend one of hers! One of my favorites is “Kate In Waiting,” which follows best friends Kate and Anderson as they both have a crush on the same boy. Both main characters are Jewish, and there’s a spotlight on platonic relationships, which usually isn’t the main focus in romance books. You should really read all of her novels, but if you have to pick one, “Kate In Waiting” is a good place to start.

Would you be able to beat your (extremely attractive. And Jewish. And single.) rival in a fierce bookselling competition? Read Laura Silverman’s “Recommended For You” to find out! Shoshanna’s having some financial troubles, and the only thing standing in her way is her fellow bookseller, Jake. It’s got great Jewish representation, and it’s set in a bookstore. What more could a reader want?!

If you’re a love triangle fan, I’d recommend “What I Like About You” by Marisa Kanter. But can it actually be called a love triangle when there are only two people involved? Halle moves and finds herself in the same small town as her online best friend, Nash, but he knows her as her alter-ego, Kels! It’s a very fun, lighthearted read, with great representation and an adorable romance.

Jewish representation is super important to me, both as a reader and an author. Raina, the main character in my novel “The Friendship Fight” (releasing Jan. 2) is Jewish, and it’s not always easy for her being in a predominately non-Jewish boarding school. If you’ve already read and enjoyed any of the novels above, this is a great read to be added to your TBR. Friends to lovers, “Romeo and Juliet” vibes, a heck of a lot of mutual pining … all the ingredients for an awesome young adult romance.
