On Oct. 28, the Judges’ men’s and women’s cross-country teams traveled to Cleveland, Ohio to participate in the University Athletic Association (UAA)’s cross-country championships, hosted by Case Western Reserve University this year. The men’s team finished eighth out of eight competing teams with a total time of 2:16:34.30, while the women’s team finished eighth out of eight as well with 227 points.
In the men’s race, Lucas Dia ’25 finished first for Brandeis. The runner had a total 47th-place finish with a time of 26:44.4. This was a strong leap from his performance at last year’s UAAs, where he had finished 68th with a time of 27:27.6. Dashiell Janicki ’25 was next for the Judges, with a time of 27:20.0—placing 61st overall. This was an improvement of nearly two minutes from the runner’s previous UAA performance. In his final cross-country UAA race, Henry Nguyen ’24 finished 63rd overall and third for Brandeis with a time of 27:22.5. Rob King ’26 followed with a time of 27:30.0, 66th overall and fourth for the Judges. TJ Carleo ’26 rounded out the Brandeis top five with a 68th-place finish and a time of 27:37.4. The Judges men’s team thus had a 53-second spread among their top five runners.
Other runners in the men’s race were Hugh Licklider ’27 (27:56.3, 70th place), captain Samuel Kim ’24 (28:38.5, 73rd place), Dylan Zhao ’26 (28:56.8, 74th place), captain Willem Goff ’24 (29:28, 76th place) and Garret Rieden ’26 (29:42.2, 77th place).
In the women’s race, Zada Forde ’25 was first for Brandeis, with a time of 23:56.8 and a 44th-place finish. Kyra Au ’25 was next for the Judges in 55th place, with a time of 24:50.1. Third for Brandeis was Katriona Briggs ’26, with an overall 58th-place finish for a time of 25:08.2. In her first UAA race, Sadie Harrow ’27 was fourth for the Judges, with a time of 25:14.4 and a 60th-place finish overall. Finishing the top five was Ella Warkentine ’26, who placed 61st with a time of 25:19.2. Overall, the Judges women’s team had a spread of 83 seconds among their top five runners.
Other runners in the women’s race were Juliette Intrieri ’24 (25:22.3, 62nd place), Shayna Zavell ’27 (25:42.3, 64th place), captain Lizzy Reynolds ’24 (25:43.5, 65th place) and captain Adah Anderson ’24 (27:58.2, 74th place).
Next, the cross-country teams will make their way to Hopkins, New Hampshire on Nov. 11 to participate in the National Collegiate Athletic Association New England Regionals.
