‘Reagan:’ Movie Review

As someone with a lifelong interest in politics and history, I was excited to hear about the new Ronald Reagan movie starring Dennis Quaid. Reagan’s story is straight out of Hollywood. A famous actor who became Governor of California and then President of the United States. I went with my cousin the day after the film came out at the AMC in Boston. I thoroughly enjoyed the film. Quaid and Penelope Ann-Miller, who plays First Lady Nancy Reagan, have an innate on-screen chemistry that enhances the story. One of my favorite parts of the film is when Reagan overcomes his struggles during the end of his Hollywood career to become a force in the political arena. The final scene was particularly moving when an ailing Reagan, with Alzheimer’s disease, went for one last ride on his horse. The movie was more of an adoring tribute to President Reagan than an objective look at his Presidency, barely mentioning some of the controversial issues of the time. Even with that, I recommend for history lovers to watch ‘Reagan’ either in the theater or when it comes out on digital streaming.
