Since The Hoot’s last coverage of the teams, Brandeis’ men’s tennis team played three matches and Brandeis’ women’s tennis team played four matches.
The women’s team lost all three matches they played, losing 1-6 to Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), losing 3-4 to the University of Redlands and 0-7 to the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges team. They also had a match cancelled against Whittier college.
In their first match, against MIT on Feb. 13, Mandy Reyes ’27 won the #6 singles matches to earn the team’s only win. A few other matches were close, including the #1 doubles match played by Reyes and Rebecca Suarez ’26, but Brandeis fell to MIT’s team in all other matches. In their second match, against the University of Redlands on Feb. 20, the Judges had a few more bright spots despite the loss. In fact, were it not for recent rules changes that devalued doubles matches in overall team scoring, Brandeis would have won the match. Reyes and Suarez won their #1 doubles match, Chahana Budhbhatti ’27 and Bhakti Parwani ’25 won their #2 doubles match and Cecilia Denis ’25 and Anastasia Sia ’25 won their #3 doubles match as well. In their last match, against the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps joint team on Feb. 21, the Brandeis women’s team lost every match.
The men’s team dropped four matches and won one, losing 2-5 to Bryant University, losing 1-6 to the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges team, losing 3-4 to the University of Redlands and winning 5-2 against Occidental College.
In their first match, against Bryant University on Feb. 1, Dylan Walters GRAD and Daniel Shemesh ’28 won their #1 doubles match. Walters also won his #1 singles match and Aidan Wang-Fan ’28 won his #4 singles match too. During their match against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Feb. 16, Walters won his #1 singles match. During the Judges’ match against the University of Redlands, Garbett and Dong won their #2 doubles match, and Walsh and Shemesh won their #1 doubles match. Lastly, the Judges picked up a win in their match against Occidental on Feb. 21, with Walters and Shemesh winning their #1 doubles match, Benjamin Kotzen ’28 and Wang-Fan winning their #3 doubles match, Dong winning his #5 singles match, Wang-Fan winning his #4 singles match, and Walters winning his #1 singles match.
Next up, the men’s team will host Franklin Pierce on March 2 and the women’s team will face off against Bowdoin on the same day.
