To acquire wisdom, one must observe

An Aperture

There is a bug trapped

The window is open

Its buggy body is pressed against the screen

The window is open

I cannot tell you what kind of bug it was,

I am not an entomologist,

Yet, I can tell you it was dark

With wings

And panic

It feared the window being shut

Crushed between the glass and mesh

I cannot tell you how I knew what it was thinking

I am not a mind reader,

Yet, I can tell you how it was frozen

Watching us

And what was lurking

Just outside

A bird waited in a nearby tree

Ready to swoop down

Take the frightened insect in its beak

And bite down

Crushing exoskeleton and antenna

I cannot tell you how I knew the bird was waiting

I was looking at the bug

Yet, I could feel its eyes meeting mine

Against the tremble of wings

The bug flies lower

Locating the gap between glass and screen

An exit

But what of the bird

The bug flew out

The window is open
