To acquire wisdom, one must observe

So you’re Pre-Law: The Pre-Law Society

Brandeis University has a substantial number of students on the pre-law track and, as such, has collected a number of pre-law-focused clubs across campus. With a variety of options for students in this area of study, The Hoot sat down with one of the Co-Presidents of the Brandeis Pre-Law Society, Jenna Lewis ’26, to get a better grasp of the world of Brandeis pre-law.

The Brandeis Pre-Law Society has been a club for many years, with a few years where the club died out before being revived. The club has recently decided to alter its focus. E-board members see the society as a potential umbrella organization that could support other pre-law-focused clubs on campus. This has been a recent shift in the club; however, efforts have been somewhat successful. The Pre-Law society has created a WhatsApp group in order to share information across clubs, as well as an Instagram page to cross-promote events. So far, PIH Engage Brandeis and the Brandeis CARE Club have gotten involved.

While the club’s focus has shifted, they still plan to put on events throughout the year. They even have a cover letter and resume workshop happening on Jan. 28 at six p.m. in the Student Campus Center (SCC) room 313. In addition, Lewis stated, “Our big event of the semester will be the second annual Pre-Law Networking Dinner, which will bring together a bunch of alumni working in the field to discuss their different legal interests and practices with students.” While events hosted by the Brandeis Pre-Law Society might come around less often, they don’t seem to be going anywhere.

When asked about the future of the club, Lewis discussed a desire to grow the networking dinner “into something big enough for Levin Ballroom.” Lewis also mentioned a focus on providing more internship and employment opportunities, referencing the increased difficulty college graduates have been facing when it comes to finding career opportunities.

It seems clear that the Brandeis Pre-Law Society has seen a need for collaboration among pre-law students and clubs at Brandeis and is looking to fill the gap.
