Spotify Wrapped is one of the most anticipated pop culture events of the year. For those who don’t use music tracking software like Last.fm or stats.fm, early December is the time of year to discover personal listening habits. Officially starting in 2016, Spotify has rolled out personal statistics in several categories, with top albums, artists and songs being consistent over the years. This year, they added new categories such as Clubs and the Fan Leaderboard, where listeners get sorted into groups by their genre blend, and can find out how many people have listened to their top artist more than they have. In addition to personal stats, Spotify also released information on what the United States and the world listened to the most.
This year, after taking a short hiatus from the crown following his 2020, 2021 and 2022 wins, Bad Bunny has regained the title of Spotify’s Top Global Artist. He garnered over 19.8 billion streams over the course of the year with the release of his album “DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS,” which was also the globally most streamed album of the year. His song “DtMF” was the fifth most streamed worldwide, defeated by Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars’ “Die With A Smile.” There were some pleasant surprises in the lists, too; KPop Demon Hunters’ fictional band HUNTR/X had the second most streamed album, with Billie Eilish’s acclaimed “HIT ME HARD AND SOFT” coming in third.
Turning back to the individual streamer, users were placed in one of six Clubs. The options are the Cloud State Society, Grit Collective, Club Serotonin, Full Charge Crew, Cosmic Stereo Club and Soft Hearts Club. Everyone then got assigned a role in one of the clubs, varying from Leader to Archivist. Spotify also introduced the Wrapped Party, which allows users to compare their listening statistics to that of their friends all within the app. Wrapped rollout was quite smooth and followed the trend of being released on a Wednesday morning between late November and early December. Other platforms, such as Apple Music and YouTube Music, also released Wrapped-esque data summaries this year, letting people all over the world see their own personalized music streaming data just in time for the holidays.
