Students bring awareness to violence against women in Latin America

Community Members gathered in the Shapiro Campus Center (SCC) and decorated signs in protest against gender based violence in Latin America. Signs were written in both English and Spanish and then hung on the walls of the SCC. One sign reads, “Ni Una Menos,” which translates to “Not One Less” which gained popularity in a Latin American fourth-wave grassroots feminist movement.

Additional signs included the names of women who have been impacted by gender based violence in Latin America. Some signs included statistics as well, one sign cited that in Latin America there are 4473 femicides every year. The United Nations cited this statistic for the year 2021. This equates to 373 femicides every year, 12 femicides a day and 1 femicide every 2 hours, reads the sign.
