Java City in the Shapiro Campus Center is going to be replaced by Einstein Bros. Bagels within the next month, according to University Dining Services and the Department of Student Activities.
Michael Newmark, Director of Dining Services, said that the change should take place in late Septemberif delivery and construction hold to their timeline. Though Einstein Bros. Bagels is an autonomous company, it has a relationship with Aramark that will allow it to operate despite Aramarks exclusive rights to food distribution on campus.
Newmark explained that the change was prompted by feedback and suggestions from the community including surveys, dining committees, student government, and the administration.
The new Einstein Bros. menu will include sandwiches, salads, bagels and cream cheeses, coffee cake, espresso, and coffee. Newmark noted that the menu will be different with regard to more bagel options and very different sandwich and salad options not found in any other dining location on campus. The set up will also create more graband-go and self serve options.
Newmark said that the transition from Java City to Einsteins will not cause any disruptions in the campus center and that a modified version of Java City will operate in the interim out of a yet to be determined location. It was also noted that the C-Store will remain unchanged and will continue to serve the same brand of coffee.
