Brandeis Arts Engagement—a resource for arts at the university according to their page—sent an email to community members with updates on arts at the university and how students can get involved. In the email sent on Nov. 10, the program offered opportunities for students to get involved in the arts at Brandeis.
“How do YOU participate in the arts? Are you a maker, a supporter, a producer, and observer? Whatever your arts style, there’s a way to get involved. So get to know the arts at Brandeis,” reads the email.
The email advertised to students the Create at Brandeis Holiday Craft Market. The event will allow students to sell their handmade goods, according to the email. The Create@Brandeis Holiday Market will be held on Dec. 2. Two time slots will be offered to students, according to the email.
There will be one session in the morning from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Shapiro Campus Center (SCC). Another session will be held on the same day but later at night from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in Chum’s Coffee House in Usen Castle.
Students must register to table at the event to sell their art, according to the page, by Nov. 21 at midnight. Students do not have to pay to participate in the event, the link to register can be found in their email and on the Brandeis Arts Engagement page.
According to the registration link, students tabling will be provided tables, chairs, table coverings and some display material. Another resource available to students tabling is a pre-event workshop to help students set up their displays, this workshop is not mandatory to table. A meeting will be held for students prior to the event to review logistical information and provide support to student vendors, according to the link.
In the email, Brandeis Arts Engagement also advertised Leonard Berstein Festival of Creative Arts’ grants for community members to help support artists in creating original work. Grants provided to students range in monetary value from $50 to $500, according to the email, the money is meant to be spent on materials required for creating new pieces.
Grant applications are now open for this year’s Leonard Bernstein Festival of Creative Arts, according to the email. The applications for grants are due by Jan. 24, 2022 and are sponsored by Arts Engagement.
Another outlet where students can get involved in the arts on campus is by having their art put on display in two student spaces on campus. According to the email, students can have their art featured in two informal exhibition spaces in the atrium of the SCC and in upper Usdan on the Create@Brandeis wall next to Dunkin’ Donuts. Individuals, groups or clubs can apply to have their pieces featured in these spaces, according to the email.
