Returning home after a successful trip to California, the women’s tennis team continued their dominance. Two wins this week against Wheaton College and Franklin Pierce University brings their spring season record to 5-2. The Judges lost only two individual matches out of the 18 they played last weekend.
March 4 brought Wheaton to the Gosman courts. The Judges swept the board, winning in an overall 9-0 score. Brandeis lost a total of 10 games throughout the nine matches. Nancy Zhang ’26 and Phoebe Tamaoki ’26 won 8-0 at second doubles. Both went on to compete in the singles. At first singles, Zhang lost only one game before winning 6-1, 6-0. At second singles, Tamaoki won 6-1, 6-1.
The following day, Brandeis was back at it at Gosman on the cusp of a big win. Brandeis, a Division III team, secured a win against their Division II Franklin Pierce opponents after Zhang won her third singles match 6-1, 6-4.
The head-to-head had some close matches, resulting in both wins and losses by the Judges. Zhang and Tamaoki lost at second doubles in a close 8-7 (7-2) match after first and third doubles had clinched their wins.
The closest match of the day was at sixth singles. Ella Chase ’26 lost a tight match in a ten-point super tiebreaker after winning the first set. The final score was 6-3, 5-7, 6-10. After a close first set, Anastasia Sia ’25 won at fifth singles 7-5, 6-2.
