Hoot Recommends: Halloween Candy

Hello Hoot readers! Who doesn’t love candy? At The Hoot, we certainly enjoy it. As we get deeper into spooky season, we’ve decided to share with you our favorite Halloween candy.

James: I like almost all of them. Seriously. I enjoy pretty much every candy out there. Whether it’s chocolates, gummies, Sour Patch Kids, or something else, I’ll eat it. The only candies I don’t enjoy are anything spicy. By far the best, though, are Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. The chocolate and peanut butter just pair so nicely with each other to create a criminally underutilized flavor.

Richard: I’m not so much of a candy person, a bit heretical, I know. But if I had to choose my favorite Halloween candy, it would probably be a KitKat. I love chocolate of any sort, even the low quality candy-grade stuff, and it plays so nicely with the crispy wafer in the middle.

Anna Jane: I’m not really sure what counts as Halloween candy outside of candy corn and those pumpkin things. Those are controversial candies, but I actually do like them. The pumpkin candies a little less, but I tolerate both. I’m not sure chocolate counts as a candy but if I’m going trick-or-treating, what I really want is any type of chocolate.

Berenice: I usually prefer soft candies like caramels and Hi-Chews. They are relatively easy to find in individual wrappings that do not take up much space, making them convenient to carry around and share with people. Also, they tend to last longer than most candies (with the exception of hard candy), which I find helps slow down my consumption and allow me to actually enjoy the candy.

Oswald: I love candy, but I hate feeling so unhealthy after eating it. For this reason, the only candy I will eat is licorice. Whether or not it’s any healthier than chocolate or gummies, I’m not sure (it probably isn’t), but if it’s licorice I can pretend.

Deyna: They are tradable, can cause a flavor dispute, and will stain your tongue. Jolly Ranchers are a pocket-candy that bring me a lot of excitement, especially when I’ve lucked out with my favorite flavor.

Liam: James is absolutely right. Reese’s Pieces Peanut Butter Cups have always been my favorite candy. In fact, other than that, I don’t really like other types of candy. A lot of people tend to actually dislike this candy, but peanuts and chocolate are such a classic combo and I feel like you can never go wrong with them.
