Saturday, Jan. 28 was Brandeis swim and dive’s Senior Day. Brandeis faced off against Clark University for the first time since 2020. The men’s team swam well and won 153-89, while the women’s team swam just as well and won 131-112. Both teams had multiple first place finishes that led them to victory.
On the women’s side, they got started with a first, second and third place finish in the 200-yard medley relay. The first-place team was made of sophomore Anastasia Bekou ’25, first-year Becca Kaplan ’26, sophomore Eva Parson ’25 and first-year Sophia Kriegsman ’26, and they finished in 1:57.56. In second place was a team consisting of senior Becky Goodfellow ’23, senior Aria Smith ’23, senior Bailey Gold ’23 and junior Monica Iizuka ’24, and they finished right behind the first team in 1:59.81. First-year Nicole Caruso ’26 followed this with a first-place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:57.01. Sophomore Chloe Gonzalez ’25 then won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:58.50, which was 19 seconds faster than second place. Bekou and junior Maya Haubrich ’24 finished in first and second respectively for the 50-yard backstroke. Haubrich had a time of 28.35 and Beukou right in front of her with 28.21. Kaplan and Kriegsman also finished in first and second place, but in the 50-yard breaststroke. Kriegsman had a one-second lead over third place with a time of 33.76 and Kaplan finished right in front of her with a time of 32.16. Gold finished in first place for the 100-yard butterfly in 56.79. First-year Summer Coronesi ’26 placed second in one meter diving with a score of 235.60. A little while later, first-year Audrey Teo ’26 won the 100-yard freestyle in 1:12.17. Kaplan was right behind her with a time of 1:16.27. Parson and Goodfellow were the top two finishers in the 500-yard freestyle with times 6:00.92 and 6:01.07 respectively. Gold won the 50-yard butterfly in 27.41 and Goodfellow rounded out the day with a first place finish in the 200-yard individual medley (IM) with a time of 2:33.54.
The men’s team started off strong with a first- and second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay. In first place was a team consisting of senior Benton Ferebee ’23, Josh Liu ’23, senior James Smith ’23 and junior Leone Kisler ’24 and they finished in 1:39.60. Second place team was made of first-year AJ Martinez ’26, sophomore Allen Hawkins ’25, first-year Eric Cherney ’26 and first-year Solomon Skelton-Harris ’26, and they finished in 1:43.01. Junior Sam Dienstag ’24 then followed with a win in the 1000-yard freestyle in 9:32.09. First-year Benjamin Lee ’26 then won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:47.20. Ferebee was next with a win in the 50-yard backstroke. His time was 24.29, which was three seconds faster than second place. Liu also won the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 30.77. Cherney continued the Judges’ success with a first place finish in the 100-yard butterfly. He finished in 55.72. First-year Eric Xiao ’26 and Skelton-Harris came in first and second in the 50-yard freestyle with times of 22.35 and 22.85 respectively. First-year Joseph Parsons ’26 narrowly beat his teammate Kisler in the 100-yard freestyle for first place. Parsons had a time of 53.82, while Kisler was right behind him with a 53.99. Ferebee also won the 100-yard backstroke in 53.98. Sophomore Fischer Caplin ’25 followed that with a first place finish in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:08.53. His time was 21 seconds faster than second place.
The Judges will look to continue their recent success at the University Athletic Association Championships in Atlanta, Georgia. This meet begins on Wednesday, Feb. 8.
